Steve, Kevin and I rode the fat bikes out to Mount Horeb by way of the Military Ridge Trail. The intention was to ride out, drink some beer and do some swimming before turning around and heading home. It was hot as hell outside with a relative humidity in the mid 90s... even before we left town. Riding provided at least some cooling effect but there was no real escape from the stifling heat and humidity. We cruised out to Mount Horeb at a pretty good clip and put in a nice effort the last few miles climbing into town. We picked up some beer, headed out to the lake and found it to be very picturesque. It felt almost like something you would find in the Boundary Waters or Canada.
Shortly after our arrival it started to rain... and then storm. Because of this we ended up simply standing in the lake as opposed to swimming. Luckily we had enough beer on hand to outlast the storm and then once it started getting hot again we decided to head out. On our way back we stopped at the Grumpy Troll for another beer and some sustenance. This was a most excellent thing to do. I put on some fresh, dry kit just in time to set out and get it all dirty. On the way back we made a quick pit stop in Riley Tavern for one final beer before cruising back to Madison. It was a most excellent day on the bikes.
